Hush Little One began as a nightly bedtime ritual between my daughter and me, and later my son and me. When my daughter was little, I would sing Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star to her each night, and usually by the end of the fifth verse, she would be asleep.

Two years later, when my son was born, I tried the same routine. But Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star had become my daughter’s special song, and the traditional lullabies never seemed to fit quite right. I found myself drifting away from those familiar tunes and creating my own melodies, verses, and lines.

Through many revisions—adding and adjusting verses whenever inspiration struck—those small bedtime moments gradually grew into a finished lullaby over the course of about nine months. It became a song made from love, late-night snuggles, and the quiet magic of holding a sleepy child.
